Vitamin supplements may delay AIDS.

Treatmentupdate 1998 Apr;10(2):4-5 (ISSN: 1181-7186)

AIDS Abstract: A South African study shows that a multivitamin or B-vitamin complex supplement can delay the development of AIDS and prolong survival compared to not using such supplements. Doctors found that patients using multivitamins took twice as long to develop AIDS than those who did not take supplements, and patients using B-vitamin complex took five times as long. Additionally, at least 50 percent of AIDS patients taking B-vitamin supplements lived longer (62 weeks versus 43 weeks) than those who did not. Controlled studies are needed to determine the best nutrient doses and combinations for people with HIV/AIDS.
